  • Kristen BellHow to bleed a franchise dry…the X-Men franchise has seen three movies go on release to accumulate somewhere in the region of $1,050,000,000 and this will only increase with next month’s Wolverine. The origin story of Magneto is also in the works and now it seems studio execs are trying to light a fire underneath X-Men:The First Class, the story of Charles Xavier’s first set of mutant students. I’m sure this will spark its own franchise spin. Overkill much?
  • Richard Jenkins (the father from Six Feet Under) and Julia Roberts will star in Eat, Pray, Love, centering on a married woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after realizing that she’s not living the life she wants.
  • The lovely Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Heroes and the voice of Gossip Girl) has been cast in Disney’s You Again, as a girl who is shocked to find out her brother is marrying the very girl who made her life a living hell in school.
  • It seems movie producers will pull out any trick to gain column inches for their movies. There’s a lot of hoopla over the fact that the release of Harry Potter 6 (everyone has given up on the subtitles at this stage) has been moved up six two days. Who cares? It’s still not until July.
  • Elisabeth Moss (from TV’s MadMen), Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs and Rose Byrne (from David Tennant’s Casanova) have joined the cast of the Forgetting Sarah Marshall spin-off Get Him to the Greek, which follows a record company intern who is assigned the job of bringing the out-of-control rock star Russell Brand, reprising his role from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, to a gig at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater.

  • One further sign the apocalypse is coming: Miley Cyrus, the 16 year old pop princess has just released her new film, Hannah Montana: The Movie, and it’s doing phenomenal business – double Disney’s expectations on the opening weekend. Prepare for Armageddon people.
  • More remake news: Breck Eisner (director of 2005’s Sahara) is taking on both Flash Gordon and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Neither project interests me to be honest.
  • Lottie has just finished reading Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger and now I hear it is to be made into a film. Hot on the heels of another novel based in India, Slumdog Millionaire, The White Tiger is likely to provide a darker message than Danny Boyle’s Oscar winner.
  • Academy Award Nominee Elizabeth Shue has just signed on for new horror thingy Pirahna 3D. Oh, how they fall.
  • I went to see the beautiful Let the Right One In again last night and saw a trailer for State of Play. Apart from Russell Crowe (whom I despise), it looks quite good:
