When Damien asked me to keep the 13 free for “something”, I knew that it was probably going to be interesting. All would be revealed by post he said. And yes, yes it was. This arrived in the post this morning:
And it’s all to do with this:
Have you seen The Princess Bride? It’s a pretty amazing film from 1987.
Directed by Rob Reiner, it’s a fairy tale with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess and stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, Fred Savage and Peter Falk.
There’s also Billy Crystal, Mel Smith, Carol Kane and Wallace Shawn. The Oscar nominated soundtrack is by Mark Knopfler.
There’s some fantastic quotes. You know them when you hear them.
Here’s the trailer:
Have you seen it? No? Well, Thursday August 13 is your chance. Deadly, a good reason to have a night in!

Darragh Doyle – blogging at the speed of light. I can’t believe you moved faster than me on this one.
Everyone should do it. We should pass a resolution or something. I can’t believe the amount of people on Twitter saying they have never seen it.
Woot!
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
I LOVED this movie.
My cousin and I used to laugh uproariously (as 9yr olds on fanta will) at the scene where they roll down the hill… while we watched it on rewind… strange children that we were!
I would love to join in but I will have guests arriving that night damn them!
This is something that I am going to do. Honestly. Great idea.
aaaaaasssss youuuuu wiiiiissshhhh!
Love it!
Awesome stuff – sounds like seriously good fun.
But remember….. “You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles. “
Wooo! Hope to be able to watch this next week.
Darragh don’t forget Mandy Patinkin (Agent Gideon in Criminal Minds), who plays good oul Inigo Montoya
Yay, what a fun idea
*Sales of Princes Bride shoot up on play.com*
This is SUCH a lovely idea. Must purr-chase.
I always felt sorry for the horse in the escape scene. I felt that a human dropping from a round tower window directly into the saddle would surely break its back! But no, tis a fairytale, such things just happen…
Excellent film, but sadly not one I have on DVD :/
“Pretty Amazing”
That’s not even half of it!
“My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.”
I’m supporting this. Any help finding the six fingered man and just to see aged Billy Crystal again.
And remember – There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.
That sounds like great fun
One of my favourite films still – I have a copy of the DVD should anyone wish to borrow for the occasion
Im a bit slow and flustered today and *just * realised that that’s a box set not a book. WANT!!!
Would you believe I’ve had the book for years (I love William Goldman) but never read it and never seen the film.
Seriously Rick, you’ve never seen the film?
@Rick, you’ve never seen The Princess Bride? Inconceivable!
Myself and my sister used to act out scenes of this film when we were younger. Fire Swamp was my favourite.. kicking lumps into those ROUS’s, or, you know.. giant teddy bears. Whichever.
“I am not left handed either” DUN-DU-DU-DU-DUN!!
Awesome film.
big William Goldman fan too. he wrote the novel and then the screenplay. what a hero.
i shall be partaking too. Andre FTW
The book is awesome, and confusing. When Stephen King started talking about visiting Florin I didn’t really know what to think.

That was so much fun.
