500 Days of Summer

To kick off the opening of their new movie, (500) Days of Summer in the US yesterday, Zooey Deschanel – our offical Culch.ie crush (!) – and Joseph Gordon-Levitt of Third Rock from the Sun fame, strut their stuff in this exclusive bank heist/movie musical homage. Bank teller (Zooey) has her heart as well as lots of cash stolen from the bank she works in by an armed robber (Joseph).

The movie itself (not to be confused with the plot of the short at all) is a romantic comedy about a man who falls for a woman who doesn’t believe in love. Tom (Gordon-Levitt) and Summer (Deschanel) work together and discover that they have lots of thing in common such as a love for the music of The Smiths.

Before long Tom is smitten. But Summer does not believe in the concept of soul mates the way that he does, she sees true love as a fairy story only and isn’t looking for romance. And so he tries his best to convince her that their love is real…aw.

The two are not a couple in real life but they definitely make a cute on-screen couple. According to this article in USAToday, Zooey and Joe have aspirations to becoming a regular on-screen couple similar to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

“I think it’s great to have continuous collaborators,” Deschanel says. “It’s a shortcut that makes it so much more fun. The job is much easier when you can go to set and be like, ‘Ah, Joe!’ “

“Absolutely. And there’s trust,” he says.

“And it’s not like, ‘Hey, nice to meet you — let’s make out! LALAlalala,” she says, closing her eyes and sticking out her tongue in a mock French kiss.

“As weird as it is filming a love story in front of a million people, at least you have your friend,” she says.

(500) Days of Summer is to be released in the UK on 4th September, so I shall assume Ireland will be in and around the same time. I’m really looking forward to it, always loved Joseph in Third Rock From The Sun
