New trailer for Doctor Who!

This is rather special: Rather than a montage of clips, the new Who trailer is a self-contained fantasy sequence that synopsises the coming adventures of the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. It also suggests a break with the overwrought Russell T. Davies cul-de-sac that Tennant’s last few outings became (stupid clicking gun, stupid jumping out of spaceship for no reason, stupid hungry Master, and so on).

Matt Smith is going to be great, there’s definitely a Troughton air about him. I’m anticipating Karen Gillan as Amy Pond will be a wry foil without the Catherine Tate facial gymnastics.

Thrilled to bits with this.

Anthony, I don’t know what’s it’s going to be like without the nostalgia buzz, but as a Who virgin (sounds rude) I’d love you to write a post on the new series when it starts!

Um…I hated it. I hated this trailer so much. I’m terrified that the new series will be awful. I don’t like Matt Smith, I don’t like his 12 year old assistant and I do not like that trailer.

Oh dear GOD that looks awful. When did it descend into a bad episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures?

And why are the angels back? Blink was the perfect self-contained Who episode.

I liked Eccleston. Tennant was too smug by far. Moffat’s got it just right.

I like the casting of Karen Gillan – Dr Who actors always work best when they don’t bring baggage to the role.

The first time I watched this trailer I thought – ‘blimey, it’s really turned into a kid’s show’.

It’s always been a kid’s show. I absolutely LOVE this trailer and the fantasy-nature of it. It’s actually a very subtle way of switching you on to the character and looks gorgeous in 3D.

Side question – does anyone know where the music featured is from? It’s really starting to grow on me…

That trailer was just AWFUL. Totally agree with Niall on it looking like a bad episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I’m really not sure that Matt Smith has the gravitas needed for the role. David Tennant is such a hard act to follow.
