Children Of The Drum – Kodo One Earth Tour
Monday, March 8th, 2010Kodo is one of those Japanese words that has two meanings. The first is “Heartbeat”, some think that the sound of the great taiko is similar to a mothers heartbeat and can help lull small children to sleep. Which should mean growing up next to a nightclub should mean peaceful nights. The other meaning is “Children of the Drum”. A touch more romantic. Kodo is also the name of a group of traditional Japanese drummers visiting Ireland as part of their One Earth Tour (which started in 1984).
The line-up has changed a bit since then. The group of seven men and five women drummers captivates audiences worldwide with their unique combination of dynamic drumming, musicianship and theatre. Its not just traditional drums as the performance includes elements of Yousuke Yamashita’s jazz and Kabuki elements of Roetsu Tosha and Kiyohiko Senba.
The Irish tour dates are Saturday March 13 and Sunday March 14 2010 in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Tuesday March 16 2010 in Cork City Hall and on Thursday March 18 in the University Concert Hall, Limerick.
