X Blather: Top 6 Auditions
If I’ve missed a few X Blathers it’s because Gary Barlow’s scripted barbs are sending me to sleep. Rather than the usual dose of sarcasm and negativity, this week’s X Blather will actually list my favourite six auditions so far. Something positive? Yay!
P.S. the people at X Factor won’t let you embed videos, so you’ll have to click through! My Top 6 are after the jump…
She’s got the name of a pop star. Well like a backwards messed up Lily Allen. She looks like Pixie Lott and Eliza Doolittle and all those other popstars, and sounds like them too. She went a bit country-soul with her audition, singing the classic ‘Piece of My Heart’. She’s no Faith Hill, but she wasn’t bad.
Signing a Stevie Wonder song is always a brave move, but hairdresser Marcus Collins is a cut above the rest. Cut above, gettit? I am high-larious. He got the crowd on their feet, and can hit all the high-notes. But best of all, he looked like he was really enjoying being there.
The a capella group were up there with Acafellas and Ted’s Band “The Worthless Peons” from Scrubs. Some people found problem with the rapping, but I thought that was the best part. They could bring something new to the table. A bit like Cher Lloyd last year?
I’m usually against returning acts, but even worse are the people who go “this is my last chance”. It never is, as you can always come back next year. Which takes balls, something John Wilding knows a thing or two about. He’s a strong singer, and looks and sounds even more polished this year.
He sounds like Will Young. Not so much lookswise, but he does have that lovely soft voice like Will does. Has a huge amount of potential, because his voice is so natural. A fantastic tone, and if he had the right mentor (Gary?), he could go very far.
Saving the best for last…
He doesn’t have the name. He doesn’t have the look. But by Jesus does he have the voice. The personality is fantastic too. He’s 45, so will be in the Overs, and is the best we’ve seen so far, regardless of age. He’s one of those SuBo-style acts that looks like they’re going to be rubbish, but then are great. But he’s not mental, which is always good. He wants to be as big as Lady Gaga, but is a far better singer. He just needs the outfits.
