Events: The First Ever Fingal Film Festival

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Yep, that’s right film fans, a new Irish festival on your doorstep. It can be more than a little tiring hearing about all these deadly film festivals abroad that one can’t enter for various reasons, so here at the Culch offices we are more than happy to say that a new festival is about to launch on our shores (yay!) that you, yes YOU can enter too. Launching on the 21st March this year, the Fingal Film Festival is now open for entries so that all you aspiring film makers can show off your skills. The fact that Fingal offers you a chance for an audience beyond your beloved (longsuffering?!) family and friends to see your work gives it major brownie points we think. Read on for all the details!

The Fingal Film Festival kicks off on 21st March 2012 in UCI Blanchardstown with a list of big industry names lending a hand. Independent filmmakers from all over the world will be submitting their new films, documentaries, shorts and animations in the hope of securing a screening in the first ever Fingal Film Festival (FFF). Although it has an international appeal, the founders of FFF want to emphasise this festival is to create a platform for Fingal filmmakers with the top award going to best Fingal Newcomer Director.

Over the festival’s three days there will be a schedule of screenings taking place both in UCI Blanchardstown and the Draíocht. The opportunity to showcase his or her work is afforded to everyone. Although the festival will have strict criteria in place for the standard of work that will be screened,, people who do not succeed in having their work screened will be able to learn and enhance their skills through a series of workshops that will be taking place over the three-day event.

There will be workshops in Acting, Directing, Music composing and Film Producing by some of the world leading names in the industry.  The festival will play host to a series of Master Classes featuring some deadly people with BAFTA Award winner Aisling Walsh (Song for a Raggy Boy), Film Producer Arthur Lappin (In the name of the Father, The Boxer) and Emmy-nominated Film Composer Joseph Conlon (Behind Enemy Lines) already having confirmed their attendance.

Filmmakers who wish to submit material to the festival can do so now. The closing date for submissions will be Friday 10th February at 5pm. Those of you who are lucky enough to have your film successfully submitted will be contacted directly and the full list of submissions will be announced on February 17th. For further details on all aspects of the festival please visit the Fingal Film Festival website.

So go on, get your film-making finger out.

Here’s a very cool trailer they’ve made for the festival:
