Indiependence 2013 – Day 1

indiependence 2013

I managed to squeeze a lot of audio into my microphone over the 3 days and fair to say it would be a little unfair to try and wedge all of that into one post. So I’m doing it in 3 parts. Also I’ve got Molson Canadian to thank for the tickets to #Indie13 and so you may hear them noted throughout. Either or, cheers lads. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re the band selection and who I chatted to decided to record ~ The deal was really simple. I didn’t read one ‘recommended to see’ list and carried the microphone when I could. If the mood struck me I recorded. As a fine example, I met Steve of Kodaline and we were both with friends. Fair is fair. I’ll get that chat the next time. Either or my love of music and the company I was with in mind, if it felt a little rude to take the mic out, I very simply didn’t. No big squeeze and no pressure.

Re the festival itself – let me get the not music bits out of the way. The porta-jacks. Whats new. The security people were lovely. Really. There was only one cuppa/ coffee seller available pre 12 o’clock – To be fair they only charged 2.50 for caffeine and 1 euro for a water. But for the family campers, that was a long trek. The Craft Beer Hall had a VIP Beer tasting. I’ll get to that seperately. I’d never done one before.

In the music department, on the main stage played We Are Scientists. The chemistry between them was just brilliant. Also to play there were The Fratellis who were so on form it was unreal and really got the crowd going. I liked them. A lot.

Around the back of the Beer Hall sat the very intimate Hot Press magazine tent. There I got to watch their interview with the Fratellis and the legendary Hot Sprockets who did an accoustic set there. After we went back stage for a chat and after that they headed to the beer hall stage [at the same time as De La Soul] and blew the place to pieces. Legends.

In between all of this lay the new and new to me acts. Partly the reason why I don’t follow the list of must see’s. Also part of the reason why I stumbled across The Vincents.

Day 2 and The Vincents to follow. When I get a moment.
