New Irish Music: Elm – Amends
I first came across Elm at The Spirit of Folk Music Festival back in 2014. And, when Cathy (of said group) got in touch and asked if I’d like to review their latest release… I kind of had one of them, Don’t I know you from somewhere type moments. And it’s not until I scrolled back through The SoFF Culch.ie reviw that I actually realised that, Yeah, I do know you from somewhere. Somewhere very beautiful in fact. And it was because of YOU, that it felt moreso like that in my heart and in my sometimes funny little head.
If I’m honest, I remember sitting and listening to Elm at Dunderry Park and getting totally drawn in by front man Dylan Walsh. In part that was down to the fact that he’s got a little of the front man funky little nut about him. Kind of, but not, like Jarvis Cocker when Pulp sang Do You Remember The First Time on Jools Holland, if you get me. Do you get me ? In that it wasn’t what you might have expected, should you have never heard them before. The very best kind of most admirable traits.
To their latest release: And then back in the confines of my own home and I’m not entirely hearing the words upon first listen, but yet again he and Elm have achieved the very same feat. Like a woman with which you are utterly and totally besotted with and she could be very well be talking Pythagoras’ theorem. And all the little people in your head can think is Jesus H Christ you, are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. And you should tell me this again. And so I press replay.
In this case, she, is a five piece music band from Dublin.
