Game Review: Mirrors Edge Catalyst
Mirrors Edge Catalyst was released June 9th.
What EA say:
The game invites you to step into the shoes of Faith – a self-assured Runner thrown into a struggle against the oppressive Conglomerate in the city of Glass. Explore Glass from the beautifully lit rooftops to the dark and gritty tunnels below. Run free in the city districts with Faith at the centre of it all. Through the first-person perspective, use your fluid movement and combat skills to master the environment and become the catalyst of change.
What I say:
The in game movie part of this is worth the money alone – see actual game footage below – And whoever is responsible for audio (and visual) at EA (they also make FIFA, Battlefield, Starwars to name but a few), deserve a very big shiny medal. It is to perfection to the point that you can almost feel Faith Connors (that’s the girl you play in the game) breathing next to you. If you have surround sound (?) turn it on loud.
To the game itself, if you are not a serial gamer, which I am not, then getting to grips with all of Faiths moves, running sideways up walls and what not can be a little tricky – but, in your favour the game reloads to the last checkpoint until you get it right. That mastered you are now into one of them whee, you better get used to still sitting there at norske automater norske automater 5am realising that you may as well put the pot of coffee on, coz there is no point in going to bed – the ultimate tester and compliment for any game.
