What was your worst interview?

As we go into the interview stage of this year’s Apprentice Ireland, possibly the toughest week for contestants, where the candidates will be viciously grilled by Bill’s handpicked interviewers, I can’t help but think back over my own interview history.

Let me start by saying, I give good interview. I always have. Of all the interviews I’ve had since I was 16 years of age, I’ve been offered the position in well over 90% of cases. So, it stands to reason  that the ones that did not result in an offer play on my mind. I ask myself what I could have done better, what went wrong, did I wear the wrong suit, was my handshake too limp…

But one interview stands out as being particularly harrowing – yes, I did shed a tear. As I tentatively write this, it still stirs up mixed feelings of anger, embarrassment and even a bit of relief that I didn’t end up working there.

The Apprentice Ireland Liveblog – Week 11

In this week’s task, the four remaining contestants (Lucinda, Steve, Stephen and Ger) are given the challenge of creating a 30 second radio ad, and an accompanying advertorial for Appleby Jewellers. Both ads should contain a new creative tagline for the company and will run during the lead up to Christmas.

Are you ready for week eleven?

The Breffmeister is gone and Psycho Eyes Aoifffe is no more. Will this week’s Apprentice be as interesting as previous weeks, now that there’s only four contestants left? Well, there’s a bit of excitement from Geraldine and Stephen – they don’t get on too well this week:

Join us on Monday evening at 9.45pm for The Apprentice live blog . My money’s still on Geraldine to become Bill Cullen’s next Apprentice, but Steve, Stephen and Lucinda are not giving up without a fight……or at least a couple of rows.

The Apprentice Week Nine – What Happened?

Alternative Title: The Unfortunate Fall of  The Great Breffmeister

It was a sad day for fans of The Apprentice, as Breffny Morgan departed in a blaze of…whatever the opposite of glory is. The man was often the butt of jokes, made some terrible decisions, fell over and mumbled his way through pitches, but he was always entertaining and added something to this year’s show that elevated it above last year’s first Irish Apprentice. Before I go on with this week’s review,  here’s Breffer’s finest moment:

Go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on GO ON

The Breffny Morgan Show continues tonight at 10pm (an hour later, due to I’m a Celebrity Look at Me) and we’re down to the final 6 contestants. There’s still no clear winner emerging yet, though my money is on Geraldine. However, Stephen ‘Ginger Boy’ Higgins could end up being the first male winner of The Apprentice Ireland.

Have a look at the preview of tonight’s episode (yet another cringe-worthy moment from The Breffmeister) and don’t forget to join us here at 9.45pm for The Apprentice Ireland Live Blog where you can moan and cheer with the rest of us. See you then!

The Apprentice Week Eight – What Happened?

While this week’s liveblog for The Apprentice was running, I was at the relaunch of Screen Cinema as Ireland’s first digital only arthouse cinema. So, I sadly missed all the bickering. Somehow, I managed to avoid hearing the result until yesterday when I finally got to watch it on TV3’s website .

First impressions of this week’s episode: embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing.

Down to just 7 contestants, we all know the personalities and foibles of each person, so the entertainment factor is certainly increased. Unfortunately, so too is the cringe factor, as every stupid thing they say, every awful faux pas is played out in full on screen. It’s like watching The Office, except it’s entertaining.

Is this the end of the Great Breffmeister?

This week’s Apprentice preview doesn’t look good for fan favourite Breffny. Here he is presenting this week’s task to SuperValu. He starts badly and it goes downhill from there…

The Apprentice Week Seven – What Happened?

Alternative Title: The One Where Breffny Grows A Pair

Breffny MorganAs soon as last week’s show started, it was clear that this was to be Breffny’s finest hour. He was in control, he was angry, he was forthright, he was talking through his arse in a wonderful way.

Never has someone so deserved the honour of saying “I told you so” than Breffny Morgan as team Cuchulainn won last week’s challenge. Berated and dragged down by a whining Aoiffffffe and Ruth, Breffny made his bed…and had a very comfortable night’s sleep in it.

The task was to design a new distinctly Irish chocolate bar for Cadburys. They were given free reign to be as creative and innovative as they wished and once again, neither team excelled. But Breffny’s team Cuchulainn were miles ahead of their competition – Singing Samantha’s team Platinum.

Aoiffe MaddenBreffny was a man inspired, determined not to allow a repeat of the previous weeks task where he thought he was being ignored. Bill Cullen appointed him Project Manager over Aoifffffe, Ruth and (will they, won’t they; are they, aren’t they) Geraldine. As PM, he went with his gut instinct, demanding, against Aoiffffe and Ruth, that they go with the chocolate bar name Blasta (Irish for tasty).  His insistence won out, as Cadbury’s far preferred the name Blasta over Sam’s Rhubarb and Custard. Cuchulainn’s downfall this week however was the very poor , robotic presentation from Ruth. Have a look:

Breffny Puts His Foot Down – Grrrrr!

Check out the preview of this week’s Irish Apprentice, where Breffny is the Project Manager, ruling with an iron fist. Have a look at Brian Purcell’s face throughout. I think he’s a fan of the Breffmeister.

Well, Breffny’s made his bed and now he’ll have to lie in it. Join us on Monday at 8.45 for the Apprentice Liveblog .

The Apprentice Week Five – What Happened?

Jennifer Quinn Fired in Week 4Week 4 really got on my nerves. I understand that the show needs to make money and needs sponsorship, but Week 4 was a blatant hour long advert for B&Q. The show is The Apprentice – it’s supposed to test the potentials’ business acumen. I can’t fathom how Jennifer browsing around B&Q, while Brendan beats a few paving slabs tests anything.

But that’s an argument for another post. Right now,  I’m supposed to be talking about Week Meteor……sorry, Week 5.

After the demise of Jennifer last week, the teams were beginning to even out again. The girls still outnumbered the lads 6 to 4, but the gap was lessened by the screentime given over to Harvard Boy Accident Prone Breffny.

[Comment From Anthony McG]
Jennifer was rubbish last week

[Comment From Lottie]
Who fell up the stairs?

[Comment From Dr. M ]
haha Breff fell….oh wait I’m a bit late for that….hello everyone!!

Samantha ConroyWith the reduced numbers (5 to a team now) it became easier to follow and there were less places for he wasters to hide. Although, there was certainly no hiding from Sam this week, who has returned to singing for her supper.

[Comment From Peter]
Have I heard correct that there’ll be singing this week?

[Comment From Jamie]
i give it…til after the break until sam sings

there she goes
