Online video presents The Streamy Awards
Yesterday saw the release of the nominees for the second annual Streamys. For those of you unfamiliar with the awards they celebrate the best in online television and videos.
Last year saw some high profile shows, such as personal fave Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, awarded for their greatness and this year is no different. If for [...]

New trailer for Doctor Who!
This is rather special: Rather than a montage of clips, the new Who trailer is a self-contained fantasy sequence that synopsises the coming adventures of the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. It also suggests a break with the overwrought Russell T. Davies cul-de-sac that Tennant’s last few outings became (stupid clicking gun, stupid jumping out of [...]

RIP Phil Harris
Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia Marie and star of Discovery’s Deadliest Catch has died from a recent stroke . Phil was one of the cantankerously brilliant characters from the show, which follows the trials of Opilio crab fishermen in Alaska.

Couch Potato – DVDs Out This Week
Couch Potato this week comes to you a day later than usual. The Oscar nominations yesterday knocked me back a bit so I do apologise. We have an interesting if unexceptional line-up this week, but there should be a little something in the sack to suit everyone’s tastes.

Got To Dance
Yes, another talent show!
There is a serious tidal wave of talent shows on tv these days from X Factor to Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, American Idol, Dancing on Ice, Strictly Come Dancing, Popstar to Operastar etc. etc. One of the American ones I have always enjoyed, though not watched religiously, has been So [...]

Gotta sing, gotta dance?
You have until Friday February 5th to jump the queue and be “invited” to audition for a new reality show being put together by Screentime ShinAwiL (their caps, and known for The Apprentice & Dragons’ Den) and RTÉ.
The details are under wraps, but there are going to be a series of open auditions [...]

Couch Potato – DVDs out this week
Tuesday is ordinarily the most depressing day of the week. With that in mind I’ve brought a little something to little up the dour mood, a collection of new DVDs that will keep you entertained right up till the weekend. So forget your boss, your husband/wife/kids, and snuggle up tight with a good glass of [...]

TV Preview: Boardwalk Empire
Yes, I know I’ve been harping on about The Pacific for a while now (it’s the new show from the Hanks-Spielberg Band of Brothers camp), but now I can bombard you with news of another television show that’s months away! Boardwalk Empire is the new drama from Sopranos writer and producer Terry Winter. Better still, [...]

Killer breakdown of the new Doctor Who trailer!
Sci-fi blog io9 has a scene by scene analysis of the new Doctor Who trailer . It’s well worth checking out if only to sample how much fervour this show continues to instill. I’m disappointed to see the Weeping Angels return as I thought Blink was a perfect little story and reusing elements [...]

Feeling Nostalgic for The Noughties?
Remember when we didn’t know who Susan Boyle was? Or when ‘Ground Zero” was just “the surface directly above or below the point at which a nuclear explosion takes place”? When we didn’t know what a carbon footprint was and bailouts were strictly reserved for those behind bars? When only farmers drove Four-wheel [...]

They think it’s all over. It is now.

Since when did the Irish Famine become something to laugh at?
I don’t know – maybe I’m far too serious for my own good – maybe the Great Famine is something to laugh about, given it’s so long ago. Maybe too this video is just a gentle satire of the current situation and maybe, if it was happening today, this sort of thing might actually happen.
The [...]
