I’m taking Friday 25 September off work. Definitely.
This afternoon we were at the launch of the Guinness 250 Arthur’s Day Celebrations.
We watched The Chapters and Noah and the Whale perform. Here’s Noah and the Whale performing Rocks and Daggers:
What’s Arthur’s Day? Well, on Thursday September 24 2009 at 17:59 Dublin time, there’ll be a toast to Arthur Guinness to mark 250 years since the signing of the 9,000 year lease on the James’s Gate Brewery and to kick off the beginning of the Arthur’s Day global events.
In Dublin there’ll be live music events in over 30 venues across Dublin “from intimate gigs in 28 Dublin pubs to the Tripod, Vicar St, Wehlan’s and The Academy and a big concert in James’s Gate itself.” The problem is - where do you go?
The confirmed line-up so far of performers is (*deep breath*): Tom Jones, David Gray, Estelle, Dirty Epics, Noah and The Whale, The Wombats, Calvin Harris, Cherbourg, D’Banj, DJ David Holmes, Eoghan Colgan, Black Swan Effect, The Blizzards, The Chakras, The Chapters, The Enemy, The Hot Rats, The Kooks, The Undertones, Golden Silvers, Hoarsebox, Imelda May, Jamie Cullum, Jay Jay Pistolet, Johnny Flynn, Kasabian, Mick Flannery, Mongrel , Mystery Jets, Nat Jenkins, Noise Control, Razorlight, Republic of Loose, Reverend and The Makers, Richard Hawley, Soul II Soul and the Sugababes.
Here’s a video about the acts:
You have got to admit - that’s one impressive list! If you don’t get into the big venues, there’s still the pubs!
Oh yes - venues like Oliver St John Gogarty, O’ Donoghues, Mulligans and The Palace Bar will have two well known artists and a performance from a special guest on the night. Tom Jones in Eamon Doran’s anyone?
Tickets will go on sale via Ticketmaster at 9am on 23rd July. Tickets for the four studio venues and the 28 Dublin pubs will only cost €17.59 and €9 respectively.
Proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the Arthur Guinness Fund. It’s as good a reason as any to raise a glass to Arthur:
The list of Dublin pubs? Ah sure, why not - Bruxelles, Café en Seine, Pygmalion, Spy, The Bank on College Green, Eamonn Doran’s, The Baggot Inn, The Stags Head, Hogans, Sin É, South William, The Foggy Dew, Dicey Reilly’s, Brogans, The Auld Dubliner, The Odeon, Oliver St John Gogarty, The Temple Bar, The Palace Bar, The Church, The Village, The Brazen Head, Mulligan’s, Doheny & Nesbitt, Flannery’s, Dakota, O’Donoghue’s and the Market Bar.
It looks amazing!! And really cheap. Fantastic
So is there anyway of knowing who is playing where? Or do you just go to your favourite pub and see who turns up?!
