1smithfield festival ’09 reviewed
First up I was at the smithfield festival ’09 to create a garden. And the garden was pretty cool - not bad if I don’t say so myself. Whilst I was there…. and in between all of that garden talk… 😉 I did take the time to talk to the people who came to Smithfield, the people who live and work there… and also to meet the acts that turned up.
The entire weekend was amazing. Note: this was also a free event. There was literally too much to do. I tried the organic burgers 🙂 and discovered what a diablo was [juggler speak…] I met Ken & Liam from Bagatelle & their manager Jim. I discovered there is a difference between a DJ and an MC… more important within that context that MC does not necessarily mean master of ceremonies 😉
More than that - I got a brief insight into what goes into putting one of these festivals together… with that in mind the hard work of Grainne & Shane of DTEinc and also the efforts of Mary Weir of Dublin City Council should be mentioned and noted. [Tips cap and waves at Sid… 😉 ] They even made the weather hold off 😉 Word has it Shane cancelled the rain dancers at the last minute…. 😉
[many thanks to Conor McCabe/Jason Clarke Photography for these]
Anyhow…. gardens aside - I also had the honour to meet the amazing guys from The Riptide Movement [watch this space], the fantastic people of Urban Strawberry Lunch from Liverpool and of course cmX aka Mexy & I.N.K.- as ken from Bagatelle said to me when I dropped him off at the DART - keep on rocking in the free world. Of course The Lord Mayor of Dublin and the legendary Bagatelle were also there.
It was very apt that they closed the closing of the event was the Lord Mayor honoring the lads for their 30 years in the music business.
Jim, their manager has promised me an exclusive culch.ie interview with the lads as soon as they manage to get a chance for a cup of tea 😉 So watch this space……..
Of course whilst I did use the song for the montage above here it is unedited for those of you [like me] that simply love hearing it over and over…… and over.
Thank you all. I loved every second of it…….
Donegan, you legend! Excellent videos there sir, especially the first one. Very much captured a slice of the festival. Fair play to you - I know how much work shooting and editing takes. Very impressive altogether.
